About Yakata-bune
The origins of the yakata-bune date back to the Heian period.Originally, they were a pasttime for the privileged classes, such as aristocrats. As water transprtation developed ---particularly on rivers --- these boats became increasingly luxurious and elegant. During the Edo period, yakata-bune were used by feudal lords and fairy merchchants for recreation, including cherry blossom viewing, moon viewing, and more prestigious than traditional Japanese restaurants.
Eventually, yakata-bune became accessible to the common people of Edo, evolving into a form of popular entertainment that bring joy to every day life. Today, they remain a cherished part of Japanese culture, woven into the modern Reiwa era as a living tradition.

Getting to Shinkiba Pier
Please proceed to the shuttle bus stop located at the rotary in front of Shin-Kiba Station. The stop is accessible from both the JR Keiyo Line and the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line.
The shuttle bus is easy to spot---it's bright red and features a distinctive sumo wrestler design.
